Financial Additions is assisting a growing real estate organization in the search for a Senior Property Accountant. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative environment while supporting a portfolio of commercial retail properties.
What You Will Do
  • Manage the monthly close process and prepare accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Perform property accounting activities for company-owned and third-party managed retail shopping centers.
  • Analyze financial results, including major expense categories, budget-to-actual variances, and operational trends.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Manage commission accounting, including reviewing leasing and sales transactions for policy compliance and ensuring commission receivables are accurately maintained.
  • Coordinate commission payments to internal and external brokers.
  • Review lease agreements, amendments, billing adjustments, and lease administration activity.
  • Process and invoice monthly management fees across assigned properties.
  • Review weekly accounts payable processing at the property level.
  • Partner closely with property management teams to ensure accuracy of financial reporting and operational activity.
  • Work with accounting staff to review tenant cash receipts and apply prepaid rent appropriately.
  • Assist in developing and improving accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Compile monthly reporting packages for leadership review.
  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
What You Will Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience; real estate or property accounting experience highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience working with retail, commercial, or multi-property portfolios is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills with strong analytical abilities.
  • Experience with MRI, Yardi, or similar property management/accounting systems preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and operational teams.
